PANAMA CITY BEACH — The next phase of the work to install sidewalks on Thomas Drive will continue Wednesday, with the work likely to delay traffic because parts of the roadway will be reduced from four lanes to two.
The work, which is expected to take seven to 10 days to complete, will involve installing cross drains on the south side of Thomas Drive from Hurt Street to Dolphin Drive, county officials said.
After work on the south side of Thomas Drive is completed, cross-drain installation will continue on the north side of the roadway, again from Hurt Street to Dolphin Drive. This work also will take about seven to 10 days to complete, officials said.
The entire project involves installing drainage, relocating utilities and building sidewalks compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The project will connect sidewalks installed from Joan Avenue going east along Thomas Drive with sidewalks installed as part of the Grand Lagoon Bridge project, county officials said.
When completed, 11 miles of sidewalks will give pedestrians a safe route along Thomas Drive, North Lagoon Drive and Joan Avenue, officials said. Bicycle lanes also have been established on Thomas Drive and North Lagoon Drive.
