Engine purrs like a kitten: Charles Town Pike, Purcellville, July 23. A kitten was reported to be stuck inside a car engine. The kitten did not belong to the car’s owner. An animal control officer took the kitten to the county shelter.

Groundhog bites dog: Riverpoint Dr., Leesburg, July 24. An animal control officer responded to a report of a dog that had been bitten and scratched by a groundhog in the dog’s back yard. The owner took the dog to its veterinarian for treatment.

Misbehaving at school: Forest Ridge Dr., Sterling, July 26. Two dogs were reported to be running loose on school property. An animal control officer followed the dogs as they went back to a residence and jumped over the fence. At the home, the officer spoke to the dogs’ owner, who acknowledged that this was a chronic problem. The officer told the owner about the law against dogs running loose and issued a citation for each dog.

Living conditions investigated: Amethyst Lane, Chantilly, July 28. An animal control officer responded to a report that four dogs were being housed in a shipping container. The officer met with the dogs’ owner and learned that the owner rents out storage to construction companies and works out of several trailers on his property. The owner brings his dogs to work and keeps them in a temperature-controlled trailer with beds, food and water. No violations were found.
