Road work: Central Park Avenue and more

Davenport Public Works crews are continuing to work on the two center lanes of Central Park Avenue between Marquette Street to Glen Place.

Crews are grinding and replacing asphalt in the lanes. Different sections will be closed over the next two weeks as crews work from Marquette Street toward the intersection of Harrison Street and Central Park Avenue.

Here are several road projects that could have an effect on your driving this morning:

• The city of Bettendorf has closed 23rd Street at Oak Street for sewer repairs on Oak Street. Traffic using 23rd Street will be detoured. The detour is expected to remain in place until at least Aug. 17.

• The Illinois Department of Transportation has closed the westbound driving lane on the Interstate 280 bridge over the Mississippi River for bridge deck repairs. Repairs should be wrapped up by Friday afternoon, Aug. 12.

• Illinois 84 is closed from 4th to 5th streets in Carbon Cliff, Ill. until Sept. 2

• The entrance ramp to northbound Interstate 280 at Kimberly Road in Davenport is closed. Drivers should take Kimberly Road to southbound I-280, then take the Locust Street exit and then return to I-280. This ramp closure is expected to be completed by mid-August.

•  Bridge washing of the Mississippi River bridge at Muscatine, Iowa is causing Iowa 92 to be reduced to one lane of the bridge from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays. A pilot car is assisting drivers through the work zone.

• Asphalt slurry sealing work on Iowa 64 from the east junction with Iowa 136 east to Monmouth is restricting traffic to one lane from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays. When work is being performed, flaggers and pilot cars are being used to assist traffic through the work areas. This project is expected to be completed by late August.

• Patching and asphalt slurry sealing work on U.S. 52 from Sabula northwesterly to near Bellevue is restricting traffic to one lane from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays. When work is being performed, flaggers and pilot cars are being used to assist traffic through the work areas. This project is expected to be completed by late August.

•  Lincoln Road in Bettendorf is closed to traffic for pavement reconstruction from 14th Street to the Broadview Drive intersection.  Local residents will only be able to enter from the east end near Broadview Drive. Completion date: October.

•  Construction work is causing intermittent lane closures on east- and westbound Interstate 80 between the Middle Road and LeClaire exits. Intermittent closures will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 9 a.m. to noon Fridays. Normal driving conditions will resume when workers are not present. This project is expected to be completed by late September.

First Post for Summer 2007 Internship, Nichols Aluminum - Blogger

Nichols Aluminum is an aluminum coil manufacturing factory. It provides aluminum for different clients all over the United States, with it's headquarters based out of Davenport, Iowa. There are five different locations, two of which are in Davenport, Iowa (I work at NAD - Nichols Aluminum Davenport, the other one being NAC - Nichols Aluminum Casting), one in Chicago, Illinois (NAL - Lincolnshire), one in Alabama (NAA), and finally the headquarters, as I mentioned above, is based in Davenport, Iowa. Now that everyone's gotten their daily dose of trivial information, I'll tell you a little about what I do. Primarily, I develop small to medium sized applications to be used in-house with .NET programming languages/environment. More specifically, I use c# and/or ASP.NET 2.0 to write in-house applications that are used to either expidite a process that is being done manually OR provide a permanent solution to a problem that is otherwise done by hand.
