The state Department of Transportation has conducted 3,000 roadside bus inspections since March that have resulted in 542 drivers and/or vehicles being taken out of service. This is a significant increase over 2010, during which 615 roadside bus inspections were conducted during the entire year.

“We applaud the state’s increased inspections, but there needs to be more of a penalty placed on those who think it’s OK to risk other people’s lives,” Gottlieb says.
