Singer Charice slams 'Illuminati' rumors

MANILA, Philippines – Filipina international singing sensation Charice has blasted rumors that she’s a member of Illuminati, a centuries-old secret society that claims to have special “enlightenment.”

“What's up with these news and people saying about Illuminati?! Again, I am NOT part of it. So just please, get a life and grow up. Thank you,” the young singer tweeted on July 20.

Rumors linking Charice to the clandestine organization is said to have begun when she released her single “Pyramid” in April 2010. She later on popularized the “pyramid” sign, a gesture in which she forms a triangle with her hands.

Apparently, some people have thought this hand gesture to represent the “All-Seeing Eye,” one of the symbols of Illuminati that depicts a pyramid with an eye on its illuminated floating tip. Curiously, the symbol is also similar to the image known as the Eye of Providence (or the All-Seeing Eye of God) that actually appears on the United States one dollar bill.

The Charice-Illuminati rumor has been quietly brewing among netizens since last year, but it is only now that the diminutive singer has actually addressed the issue via her Twitter account.

In her July 18 tweet to a follower who also inquired about the issue, Charice lamented, “bakit naman ako magiging member? porket kanta ko po'y Pyramid, member na? hehehe. pero ayon.. hindi po."

The budding actress also told another follower, “Ayaw kasi muna basahin ang lyrics diba.”

Amid all the Illuminati-related tweets, comedian Chokoleit comforted Charice, saying, “Hello Little Ms @OfficialCharice you just don't know how you make us proud. Madami pang mangyayari and you are just starting! Bless u more!”

To which Charice replied, “Thank you po.. Minsan nakaka-frustrate lang po yung ibang tao. But, I keep trying to be calm. haha! :) Kalma lang ako. :).”

Actually, ”Illuminati” is a generic label used in the past by the Catholic Church on freethinkers such as the Perfectibilists and the Freemasons, whose members were excommunicated by the Catholic Church.

Famous Filipino “Illuminati” include most Filipino heroes such as Rizal, Bonifacio, Mabini and Aguinaldo. If you visit Aguinaldo’s house in Kawit, Cavite, you will see there a huge picture of a mason on a throne with a description of Aguinaldo’s membership with the Freemasons.

Jessie J also has used the gesture making a circle around her eye like Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Britney Spears and others, which seems to be another version of the Eye of Horus. Some people believe it is a representation of 666, the Devil’s mark, as well.
