Top cop: 'Tottenham teenage girl attack may be a myth'

SENIOR MET OFFICER Steve Kavanagh has hit back at claims that officers, patrolling a peaceful protest in Tottenham on Saturday (Aug 6), attacked a 16-year-old girl, sparking violent riots in the north London borough.

The unidentified female is believed to have thrown a stone at a line of officers outside Tottenham police station during a march protesting the death of a 29-year-old Mark Duggan shot by police earlier in the week (Aug 4).

It is claimed that officers then hit the teen in the face with a baton before she was knocked to the ground, which angered the crowd.

In the minutes to follow two police cars were set on fire, which then sparked further violence and looting.

Asked about the rumors, Kavanagh said: “If that girl does exist, she hasn’t come forward.”

He added: “If the story is true then it will be investigated by the IPCC [independent police complaints commission] and the police to get to the bottom of it. It might be a folk tale, but we do not know yet.”

Footage of the alleged incident has emerged on the Internet, which shows onlookers screaming: “she’s a girl”, while another voice urges the crowd to “get” the police.

The teen is yet to come forward.

You have no hope in life because that is the path you have chosen. Not because well trained and willing teachers have spent years talking to your blank faces. You expect the world to owe you a living and, no doubt, cry into your coco pops when your dole money isn't paid into your debit account. You breathe hate for an unknown enemy and are too blind to see that enemy is your own willingness to be human. You live your lives in computerised worlds and take your teachings from the fantasy words of the record labels. You are nothing, empty, worthless trash. Your stench lingers on our streets, on the tube, in the shopping malls. Your ideas of fashion manufactured by children of 5 who have a better grasp of love and belonging. You could have been a part of our once great nation; instead you choose to tarnish its name. You could have been the future of our world class industry; instead you choose to burn it. You could have been a member of our nation of shop keepers; instead you chose to loot it. You can hold your knives, guns and sticks in your over expended arms. You can try to increase your height as you swagger the high streets.

Writing about Red China Myth - Dallas Blog

One of my favorite habits is meeting people and answering questions about my job. I always say: “I’m a conservative Republican, a U.S. citizen and I work for a Chinese state-run media outlet called China Radio International, where I write a daily political column on China-world affairs.” After answering, I await their response. I usually see people caught with a facial expression of shock and disbelief. Many will ask if I’m joking. But if they have a cell phone with an Internet connection, I suggest they log on to the

After people realize I’m not joking and I didn’t escapee from an insane asylum, I often get asked these questions: “Do you copy and paste your column from Chinese government propaganda documents? Do you worry about getting sent to a prison camp if you write a negative comment about the Communist Party of China? Are you followed by suspicious-looking men wherever you go? Did the Chinese government set up a honey trap (a Chinese woman spy) to trick you into writing a column about China?

My answer to all these questions is “no.” I actually stand behind everything I write and often I do criticize Chinese government policy or Chinese society. If you have any doubts, I’ve written about calling for an end to China’s one-child policy, denounced China’s railway ministry for not placing safety first and accumulating massive debts and published a number of other complaints.

I will admit that some political editing occurs with my column, but the so-called political editing has not been as extensive as I anticipated before taking the job. I’ve also learned much about China’s political culture since I arrived in Beijing last October. China really is on the path to more political and market-oriented reforms, especially since they hired someone like me to write a political column about their country for a government-run media outlet.
